On 21st March, twelve children from Year 5 and Year 6 visited QEGS to participate in a New Age Curling competition. Many of them had never tried this sport and had feelings of both apprehension and excitement at trying the unknown. The ‘stones’ resembled small Frisbees which glided on ball bearings towards a target about ten metres away. It was surprisingly tricky to hit the target! If the stone hit the far wall and bounced back, it was disqualified.
After a short practice, the children had several games in two rounds to determine the semi-finalists. Despite there being many cheers when an opponent’s stone was knocked out of the way, unfortunately our teams didn’t progress to the next round but they did have a fantastic time and returned to school full of energy to share their afternoon with others.
