Horncastle Tag Rugby Victorious!

Horncastle Tag Rugby Victorious!

On Monday 14th March, 10 children from Year 5 headed to Wragby to engage 2 other schools in a Tag Rugby competition. We have been a club since the start of Year 4 and this was our first taste of competition so we set off for the day in high spirits.

Our first game was against Wragby, a team of Year 6 children with several outstanding talents in their ranks. We soon found ourselves 2 points down in the first 2 minutes but quick replies from Alex R and Turner K left it 2 a piece at half time. Our skill and teamwork really shone through in the second half with points scored by Eden B, Jo F and Rowan B. Wragby did reply with 1 more point in the dying stages of the match but Horncastle passed what would prove to be their toughest test of the day and ran out 5-3 winners.

We then watched Wragby take on Alford in what would end up being the battle for 2nd place.

Our final game was against Alford, who showed some real athleticism in the first half, outpacing us on the wings to score some easy points. Turner K was not finished for the day, a first half hat-trick made it 3 a piece at half time. Redford B was very unlucky not to cross the line several times in the first half. Further points from Rowan B, Ellie C and Alex R made us eventual 7-4 winners.

Special mention needs to go to Jessica B and Anya R, without their brilliant defensive work late on, both score lines could have been a lot different.

The children were a real credit to themselves and to the school. They played in excellent spirits, shook hands with their opponents and played every minute of Rugby with a smile on their face. Next Stop Twickenham! (Where Mr Hanrahan went for the Wales game last weekend!
