Welcome to Year 4 at Horncastle Primary School. The two classes are taught by Mrs Dinesh (4D) and Mr Bird (4B). We are also supported by student teacher Miss Nadasen.
We use a topic-based approach in many of our lessons, studying the world’s oceans in our Blue Abyss project and recognising the impact of environmental waste and pollution. We aim to promote global citizenship and an awareness of caring for our world. We also develop our cultural and geographical knowledge of the Far East and study Ancient Egypt to further our understanding of the distant past. Further historical foci include learning about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings as part of our Traders and Raiders topic. Towards the end of the year, we study Iceland and life in Reykyavik – creating fact files and persuasive travel guides.
Through our pastoral subjects, we focus on wellbeing, building effective relationships and looking after ourselves through making healthy lifestyle choices. We also instil the importance of respecting people from all cultures and belief systems and promote the importance of equality as an ideal.
Alongside our class-based lessons, we welcome the opportunities provided through music, PE and collective worship to come together as a year group. Above all, we endeavour to develop children’s self-esteem and provide them with varied opportunities and experiences to enable them to reach their full capabilities as independent learners.
