Year 1 are taught by Mrs Adams, Mrs Barr, Mrs Smith, Mrs Thompson and Mr Benson. We are supported by lots of talented teaching assistants.
We welcome all the children into Year 1 and we are looking forward to a another fantastic year of learning! During Term 1 our topic is "Enchanted Forest", which will include learning about the traditional tale "Little Red Riding Hood" and the Julia Donaldson book, "Freddie and the Fairy".

Fairy Bluebell sent the year 1 classes a letter to say that her wings had been broken in a storm and could we help her choose the best material for new ones. The material had to be light and translucent. We tested different papers to decide which would be best. Most of the children thought cellophane would be the best but some thought tissue paper would be the best. We made her new wings using the best material.
Trip to the Enchanted Wood
We went to Banovallum Carr on a lovely sunny autumn morning in search of fairies. We tiptoed quietly into the wood and guess what we found ........
We received another letter from Fairy Bluebell and she had had another accident, an accident prone fairy! This time she has broken her wand. She asked if we could make her wand using 10 cubes, it had to in 2 colours and they had to be in blocks. We found all the different possibilities using just 2 colours.
War Memorial Hospital
On Monday the Year 1s walked down to the War Memorial Hospital to see where the wreaths of poppies were placed on Remembrance Sunday. The children have learnt that the World War 1 ended on the 11th day of the 11th month at 11 o'clock and each year on this day and time we are silent for 2 minutes to remember all those people who fought in the wars.
