Athletics and Tennis School Games 07/08/17
Our athletics and tennis team, consisting of children from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6, contested the final of the Lincolnshire School Games. Having won the local tournament earlier in February, this was the grand finale; the children were representing the Coastal District and would face the champions from each Lincolnshire region to try and claim the county titles.
Having met on Louth Road at the early time of 7:45, we travelled together to Meres Leisure Centre in Grantham. Surprisingly the children were wide awake and the bus was ‘alive’ for such an early time!
In athletics, the children took part in a range of track and field events. The children performed admirably in each of their events, competing with positivity and a smile on their faces. Their achievements included several individual and relay wins, and many personal bests! After a long day of gruelling competition, the children awaited the results. After beating off some high level competition, the team placed second overall to collect silver medals! This fantastic achievement means that they are the second best athletics team in the county – a truly remarkable achievement!
We are so proud of each and every athlete for their determination and display of sporting talent. They have dedicated themselves every week to practice their skills and improve their performance levels in preparation for the final. They really do deserve their success! We hope that this is a spring board for many of the team to pursue their interest in the world of athletics and to open new doors for children who are coming through the school.
Athletics Team Girls: Brooke, Sky, Emily, Jasmine, Alex, Connie, Isobel (all Y6), Sophie (Y5), Jess and Eleanor (both Y4)
Athletics Team Boys: Rowan, Redford, Daniel, Declan, Turner, Joseph (all Y6), Noah, Reece, Toby and George (all Y5)
In tennis, each team member played well and achieved individual wins. After results were collated, the team played in a 5th vs 6th place play-off. They all won their individual matches and achieved 5th place overall. The team also received a trophy for 'Best Sporting Attitude' - a fantastic accolade! Again, this bodes well for the future as we search for more tennis stars in Years 3 and 4 to enter next year’s competition.
Well done to every tennis player - you showed fantastic skills and spirit in each match to compete for every point. Also, we would like to say thank you to Miss Boston who gave up her time to coach the tennis team on the day.
Tennis Team: Charlie (Y4), Owen (Y4), Jessie (Y3) and Katherine (Y3)
Finally, we would like to say a big thank you to all the wonderful parents who came to support, it felt like a home crowd - you gave the children huge confidence and helped massively to drive the teams forward!
A big well done to everybody involved!

Y5/6 Horncastle Football Success in the Summer Sizzler!
We entered 2 Year 5/6 football teams into the Horncastle Summer Sizzler tournament at Horncastle school. Having been victorious the year before, and with more teams entered this year, the challenge was set.
Both teams played excellently. In the group stages, our A and B teams were undefeated and topped their respective groups.
Into the semi-finals, Horncastle A played a close fought match against St Andrews which ended with a win. The B team played Manor Leas and lost admirably.
The final was a nail-biting occasion and Horncastle A played Manor Leas. With ten seconds left on the clock, Horncastle scored via Toby and the game finished 1-0 .
Throughout the tournament, both teams played in the correct spirit, working as a team and playing some really good football. Well done to both teams!

Y5/6 Horncastle Netball Teams impress at Summer Sizzler!
We entered three Year 5/6 teams into the tournament.
All three teams demonstrated exceptional teamwork throughout each match that they played. In the group stages, the A team won their league whilst the B team finished second and C team finished fourth in their league.
Team A and B progressed into the semi-final and had to play against each other! Both teams played with great competitive spirit. The match finished at 1-1. Into sudden death and after a few minutes of tension, Connie scored the winning goal for Team A!
Horncastle A went on to play St Andrews’ A in the final. Both teams played extremely well with St Andrews’ having the edge, winning 3-1, and becoming winners of the tournament! Horncastle B went on to play Alford A in the 3rd v 4th play off match. Both teams played in great spirit! The game finished as 2-2 so it was decided both teams would be declared equal third place teams.
Throughout the tournament, all of the girls played to the best of their ability and worked efficiently as part of a team. They were always supportive and encouraging of each other. A big well done to all of the girls who took part!
