Football victory!

Y5/6 Horncastle Football Win the JB St Hugh’s Tournament!

On Saturday 11th March, we entered 2 Year 5/6 football teams into the JB football tournament at St Hugh’s school. Having been victorious the year before, and with more teams entered this year, the challenge was set.

Both teams played admirably. In the group stages, our A and B teams were undefeated and topped their respective groups. Horncastle A scored 6 goals and did not concede, whilst Horncastle B scored 9 goals and conceded only once!

Into the quarter finals, Horncastle A played a close fought match against Tetford which ended with a 1 - 0 win. The B team played Seathorne and won comfortably 3 - 0.

The semi-final was more nail-biting for Horncastle B, who played Lacey Gardens. With the game ending 0-0 after extra time, it went to a penalty shoot-out - with clear focus, determination and some excellent saves from our goalkeeper, we won 4 - 3. Meanwhile, the A team played some wonderful and dominant football, to see off St Andrews with a 2 - 0 victory.

This meant that both teams would contest the tournament final. After a long fought battle, Horncastle A scored midway through the game, to win 1 – 0. Both teams played resolutely, valiantly and with great awareness and respect of one another. Well done to both teams!

It proved to be a fantastic start to an exciting weekend of sporting activity! We look forward to defending our title for a second time, next year!

Can I say a big thank you to all the parents and family who came to support, with a special thank you to Mr Bramley, who coached our A team.
